Overview

Purpose

Welcome to the #unixgeeks / #windowshelp / #macgeeks utils wiki.

The same questions about 'what should I use to do <x>' keep coming up again and again, so this wiki is an attempt to document those. And also provide a list of links whenever I need to load a new system!

Rules

Please help out - you need to sign up to reduce spam, but that's it. I promise not to spam you either. The more brains we have working on this the better.

The idea is not to list every single utility that does <x> (you can go to dozens of sites for that) but what we consider the best. And if something good turns sucky (like Nero) we'll remove it.

If you add a new link or category, keep it alphabetical and keep the formatting consistent. The : <your handle> is important as it helps people judge your recommendations. If you particularly agree with a recommendation, feel free to add your handle with a comma.

Custom Namespaces

I have added the following namespaces:

  • Linux
  • OSX
  • Windows

So you can add page references specifically as [[Windows:Gather All Windows]] to differentiate them from other versions.

Platform Specific

Linux (or *nux)

Mac (OS X only)

Windows 2K / XP / Vista

Platform Independent

Firefox
